Unclog Shower Drain In 6 Trouble-Free Steps

unclog shower drainA good, warm shower is heaven after a day’s work. It relieves you of the stresses you experienced within the day: heavy traffic; piles of documents at work; endless amount of household chores and anything else that has made you physically and sometimes even mentally drained. But what could possibly ruin your relaxing time in the bathroom? Of course! A clogged shower drain! You may not notice it while still enjoying your bath but you’ll surely raise your eyebrows once you see the pool of water that won’t go away. Lucky for you, it isn’t that hard to remove a clog. Here’s a quick guide to assist you!

1. The first thing that you should do is to get rid of the drain stopper or cover. Pop it up and twist it around to detach the assembly. Clean the area and dispose of any soap scum or hair strands that accumulated in the cover.

2. If removing blockages in the surface doesn’t resolve the issue, it’s time to hook the clog out. Get a wire coat hanger from your closet; straighten it out and make a hook-like shape in one of its ends. Insert it into the hole and pull out whatever’s causing the blockage.

3. If you are not able to hook anything out, boil some water. Pour it into the drain and let it alone for about 30 minutes. When time is up, check if the drain is back to working condition. It’s still clogged? Move on to the next step!

4. Let’s go tried-and-tested! Get baking soda and vinegar from your kitchen cupboard. These cooking ingredients are popular for their efficient ability to remove clogs. When they are combined, they produce some sort of chemical reaction that breaks down clogs in an instant! Combine equal parts of baking soda and vinegar. A cup should do. Then pour the mixture into the drain and let it work its magic for a few minutes. After that, pour hot water once again and snake the clog once again with your wire hanger. Test if the procedure worked! If not, get your reliable plunger.

5. Let hot water run in the tub and only turn it off once the level already covers the rubber part of your plunger. When ready, position it right on top of the hole. Plunge in a consistent, medium pace for about 15 repetitions. Hopefully, this will already solve the problem. If not, you better use a plumbing snake.

6. A plumbing snake or snake drain is a great tool for removing clogs. Simply insert it into the drain and turn the crank clockwise to push it forward. Once it touches on something solid, keep on turning the handle. Doing so will break the clog into smaller pieces. When you feel that the wire is already moving freely inside, slowly pull it out and dispose of the waste that you retrieved from your pipe.
